We are all familiar with the challenges of learning new technology. When it comes to multifunctional devices, it is crucial that the handling is easy, fast, and logical. To demonstrate this, we spoke with Sara, a long-term user of LIZN Hearpieces®, who can offer valuable insight into her user experience.
LIZN: What is your general experience of handling the Hearpieces®?
Sara: “There are two different ways to operate the Hearpieces®. You can use the App, and you can use Finger Touch. When I started using them, there was a slight learning curve, like any product. I explored the setting options and set the Speech Clarity Preset and Volume to the most comfortable level when I was in noisy environments to increase my speech comprehension with LIZN Mode. But after I got used to them, I use the App in some situations and Finger Touch in others.”
LIZN: When do you use the App?
Sara: “The App is my preferred choice in most situations. In addition to the fact that it is extremely easy to set the Hearpieces® to either LIZN Mode or Earphone Mode, along with the different sound functions, you also get a visual overview of the options and the current setting. The app is 100% crucial when updating the Hearpieces® with new software. There are no other ways to do it, and it works perfectly, both on my iPhone and my husband’s Android phone.
The App also has a smart feature that allows you to disable touch controls. I use this when I am in a situation where my smartphone is naturally in front of me. Then I just use the app to adjust the Hearpieces®, and I don’t risk them suddenly changing settings or volume when I put them in my ear or otherwise activate Finger Touch by mistake.”
LIZN: So, when do you use Finger Touch?
Sara: “When I’m at a large party, in a café, conference room, or bar where it’s not natural to have my smartphone out – or where I simply haven’t brought my phone with me – and where I therefore only use Hearpieces® in LIZN Mode, I switch to using Finger Touch.
The great thing about Hearpieces® is that they always open in the mode you last used. So, if I’m going to a party and have them in my bag, I make sure to set them to LIZN Mode and in Medium Speech Clarity Preset in advance, which is my preferred amplification level. Then all I have to do is take the Hearpieces® out of the charger and put them in my ears when the need arises – and that happens every time there’s noise and poor acoustics. Once you’ve gotten used to Finger Touch, which can be a bit difficult to use at first, you can adjust on the fly. If the noise level increases, all you need to do is a single-tap on the left Hearpiece® and the Speech Clarity Preset will switch to Bright, which gives noticeably more consonant amplification.”
LIZN: Are there situations where you feel like you have no control?
Sara: ”Not really. The Hearpieces® have a peak limiter function, which means that they automatically minimize the sound pressure when a very loud sound comes in. In that situation, they take over the control themselves, but I only experience that as a huge advantage.”
LIZN: Do you experience other advantages of using either the App or Finger Touch?
Sara: “Finger Touch is the fastest way to operate Hearpieces®. For example, if I am listening to music or a podcast in Earphone Mode and someone suddenly approaches me, I simply double-tap the left Hearpiece®. They then immediately switch to LIZN Mode, so that I can not only join the conversation, but also get better speech comprehension if I am in a noisy room. The same thing happens when you receive a phone call. A single tap on the right Hearpiece® and you are connected via your phone. Finger Touch is the fastest way to operate, but it takes some time before you become completely familiar with how to tap on the device and how the different touch messages work.
For me, the ability to use both the App and Finger Touch in combination, and where it is most appropriate, is brilliant. And I must admit that I have reached the point where I cannot do without the Hearpieces® in my daily life, so easy and problem-free handling is just a must for me.”
